Despite all the illegal music sites out there and mp3 sharing on social networking sites, there are still a range of legal music download sites. Of those, though, even fewer offer unlimited legal music downloads.
Don't get me wrong - they *do* exist - but there aren't too many of them around.
Therefore in this article I'm going to point your attention toward the few unlimited legal music download sites that I know of so you can go and check them out.
Fair warning before we get started... Free and legal don't generally go together. You *will* have to spend some money to use these services but it isn't much and some offer a free trial so you can see whether or not you like it before actually coughing up and real money.
Credit cards may be required even for the free trials - so have yours at the ready when you're checking them out.
My main two recommendations for you would be either Musicmatch or Emusic.
Unfortunately Napster, despite being a great music download site, doesn't offer an unlimited package.
Let me explain how these services work so you can decide which would be the better option for you.
Musicmatch offers a 14 day trial period at present and allows you to download their Musicmatch Jukebox software. This software allows you to download and listen to an unlimited number of tracks - but only on your PC. So longas you have a current subscription you can use your PC like a stereo and listen to as much music as often as you like. Great stuff.
Just be aware that you're more "renting" the tracks than buying them. If your membership expires, the licensing (and indeed the systems in place - don't think you'll be able to get around them) means that you won't be able to listen to these tracks again.
If you want to download your mp3s onto your mp3 payer or burn them to CD you can do this, but firstly you need to actually buy them - at a cost of around a dollar each at present.
It's still arguably cheaper than buying them in a store, is more practical than having to go out and trawl all sorts of stores looking for the tracks you want. It also meand you don't waste money buying songs on an album that you won't listen to. And it's quick and easy.
But you *will* have to pay for each one. So only *part* of Musicmatch's service offers unlimited legal music downloads.
The other option is Emusic which again has a 14 day free trial and allows you to download unlimited tracks but this time you can burn them or download them to your mp3 player without having to pay any other fees so it works out far cheaper.
The only thing to be aware of is that Emusic doesn't tend to have as many big-name acts as Musicmatch does. Personally I would suggest you get a trial subscription to both unlimited legal music downloads sites and see at the end of the trial which you prefer.
